Meet Belle

Belle, or Baby Belle, as they called her is a central character in the backstory for Pip and Spyder. Belle was missing for weeks before Pip and Spyder found her. During that time, the countryside was buzzing with rumors of what happened to Belle. Stories were being fabricated that she might have been kidnapped by a strange forest monster and fear was starting to spread through Scalesville of a second attack from the mysterious creature.

Belle, the youngest of her siblings, went missing while her family was on a camping trip in the woods. It’s most probable that she wondered off in the middle of the night and couldn’t find her way back to camp in the dark. When her parents awoke the next morning, she was gone. It is unknown how she managed to survive alone for weeks, but her extended disappearance extinguished hope that the search party would find her alive. This was in a time before mobile communication and smart technology.

One October evening after school, Pip and Spyder followed a trail of bloody scales into the forest, eventually discovering Belle alive but weak in an abandoned cave, where she had taken refuge.

The days that followed her rescued became a turning point for many of the characters in the Chatty Dragon story. The time that Pip and Spyder spent with Belle forever changed their friendship and their lives. Belle’s life connects more key moments in the story that are later revealed.
