(Blog 16) Lena’s Backstory
If Spyder’s story was one of quiet observation, intellect, and navigating the world with calculated precision, Lena’s personality is a whirlwind of confidence, charm, and high-energy. Lena thrived in the spotlight. To know her is to love her, but beneath the homecoming crowns, school spirit, and seemingly perfect relationships, every story has its challenges. Now, we shift from the quiet corners of Spyder’s world to the lively halls of Scalesville High, where Lena’s story begins…
Early One Tuesday October Morning 20 Years Ago: The table was all set up and ready for some fierce competition at Scalesville High. The girls of Team Dragon had gone all out covering their booth with a hand-painted tablecloth splashed with school colors, filled with phrases like “Vote for Lena!” and “Dragons Rule!” They were wearing their boldest and most obnoxious outfits to show off their school spirit. The senior hallway was alive with energy as each team - Monitor, Salamander, Snake, and Dragon, rushed to finalize their setups before the morning bell.
Lena and her two best friends, Kylee and Wix, stood back to admire their work.
“The booth looks so good,” Kylee gushed, clasping her claws together. “I’m so proud of our tablecloth. We should totally have all the seniors sign it after we win, Lena!”
Lena flicked her tail, chuckling. “After we win? Kylee, we gotta win first! Wix, the stickers look amazing! That queen dragon? Subtle reference to current events.” She shot her friend an approving nod.
Wix beamed, her wings tense but fluttering slightly. “I had to. The war is on everyone’s mind - the dragon families especially. I wanted to create something that showed solidarity among us. You’ll be the perfect Homecoming Queen to represent Scalesville against the other schools.”
Kylee had a playful grin on her face. Giddy with excitement, she squealed, “Everyone knows you’re going to win, Lena. I mean, come on, the class already basically considers you and Robert, Queen and King.”
The volume began to increase in the hallway as students filtered in and glanced at the displays, chatting as they made their way to their lockers. A few younger students ran up to admire Team Dragon’s booth, pointing at the bright tablecloth and vibrant stickers.
Across the hall, Team Snake was equally as prepared, their booth with a glossy printed banner and every detail perfected. In the center of it all stood Sienna, her scales gleaming under the fluorescent lights so vibrant it was apparent she’d planned her shed day just before the rally. Her eyes were sharp as she locked onto Lena from across the way.
Lena sighed, straightening her posture. She wasn’t about to let Sienna get under her scales.
A voice cut through the chatter. “Well, well, well. If it isn’t the queen of the school herself.”
Robert walked up behind Lena as she turned around to wrap her arms around his neck. His presence was always warm and effortlessly reassuring. “You ready for this, Your Majesty?”
Lena laughed, shaking her head. “You’re impossible.”
He grinned, nudging her shoulder lightly. “Only because I know you’ve got this.”
