(Blog 4) Calisto
(Continued from our last post…)
The morning was quiet in Calisto’s workshop. Sunlight streamed through the opened, stained glass windows, bathing the room in a rainbow light. A half-finished mosaic lay on one table, shards of glass scattered around, while paint-splattered tools and fabric scraps were piled high on shelves. Calisto’s workshop was her happy place.
Her phone buzzed and she picked it up, grinning at the name. “Spyder, darling, to what do I owe the pleasure? Another mystery to solve?”
“Not quite,” Spyder’s voice was enthusiastic. “Calisto, I’ve got something big. I found an old sticker factory, and I’m turning it into a business. Lima’s already on board, and I’m calling Pip next. I need your experience with design and printing.”
She leaned against her workbench and rubbed the sapphire and amethyst jewels in her horns. “Lima, huh? I can see why you’d pick her, but Pip? Really?” She groaned. “You know he’s going to poke around where he shouldn’t and probably break something. And you know he’s intimidated by me.”
Spyder laughed. “True, but he’s good at fixing things, too. I think you and Pip balance each other out. You can keep him in check, and well, he keeps things exciting…”
Calisto rolled her eyes, “I have no business managing anyone. We might work as well together as oil and water. Exciting is not really the word I’d pick, Spyder.”
Calisto hesitated, twirling a piece of wire between her claws. The idea of working with others, especially Pip, made her pause. He could be frustratingly hyper, always fiddling with things he didn’t fully understand. She adored Lima and the thought of working with her and bringing their creativity to life in a whole new way was tempting though.
She sighed, a smile came across her face. “Alright, Spyder, I’m in but you if you hire Pip, he’s yours to manage. Keep him out of my scales.”
“Fair enough,” Spyder replied. “Thanks, Calisto. It’s going to be incredible.”
