February Review - The Month of Persistence

February flew by and I’m beginning to learn just how long it takes to SET UP a business. Social media and pyramid scheme gurus that want you to by into overnight business success are nothing more than crafty salesmen. I will say I am learning as I go, so I’m sure that doesn’t help my case.

I continued to work on developing the store side of the website and continue to fine tune a strategy for creating and posting on social media. My daughter is continuing to draw dragons and we’ve had a few submissions for our spring release, which is happening next month. I’ve attended several professional development sessions - in person and online and met with my SCORE mentor.

This months priorities were:

🧡 Finish out the first set of emails and workflow for new subscribers
🧡 Photograph product content (with my iPhone, nothing special but it gets it done)
🧡 Explore potential ways of marketing and getting in front of consumers, including local year book ads and considering gift boutiques
🧡 Created multiple reels to post to socials (focused on reels, although I am shifting to a mix of static images and reels because I can NOT create reels fast enough to post multiple times a week.)
🧡 Applied for a Google My Business and was rejected because I have an online only business (super bummed)
🧡 maintained contract work for freelance accounts that I also manage (which pays me real money)
🧡 I did not spend any money on the business, but I didn’t make any either so…
🧡 Took a side-quest with Lima the dragon to raise baby chicks. This is actually a school project for my daughter’s science class, where each student has named an egg and we shall see how many hatch.

🧡 Created a loose business plan.
🧡 Set-up and monitored G4A for web traffic.

G4A report for lead generation for January 1 - February 2025

A few takeaways from February:

🧡 At an in-person meeting, the ladies in the group were excited about our dragons personalities being based on Enneagram types. Not something that I have ever thought about using to market them, but I am keeping it in the back of my mind.
🧡 G4A is reporting traffic from Facebook, which I initially thought was pointless to create and only set up an account for FB because Instagram required it. Adversely, I’m not seeing any traffic from IG. I need to analyze what this means.
🧡 Marketing is still all over the place and hardly exist. While I work in marketing, I find it’s difficult to figure this out for my own business and I am perhaps limited with decision paralysis. With money limited to invest, I need to be strategic where I place my energy and sometimes marketing success comes down to a bit of trial and error.

In March, I plan focus to harder on marketing - specifically how to talk to my audience, while developing the Spring crew of dragons (many are already written in the story). We’ll be taking a pause from Spyder’s story and shift our focus to Lena the dragon in the blog.

🧡 Share this post with anyone who might be inspired. Let’s cheer each other on!
