March Review - The Month of Learning
Third month in and I’m enjoying myself so much. I am continuing to attend SCORE webinars and work with mentors. I have added a second mentor that works in the area of SEO and she has been great. Chatty Dragons was chosen for a marketing review in the Get Unstuck webinar, with Daniel Burstein, that you can view here. (link expires in 30 days) I’ve received a lot of great feedback in general for the business and we chose a winner for our Spring Release submissions.
This months priorities were:
🧡 Chose a winner for Spring Release and make socials to announce the new crew
🧡 Learned to optimize my website for SEO. Attended a webinar, with Jennifer DeRosa, that you can view here regarding SEO. This webinar kick started my investigation into my own website.
🧡 Purchased 3 yearbook ads for local schools and created a dedicated landing page to track those ads once they are published this fall.
🧡 Began writing more of the story on the blog, now focusing on Lena’s backstory and thinking ahead to weave in the new Spring dragon, Kylee, as a side character.
🧡 Ordered more stickers for the new dragons.
🧡 Created a single email to announce the winner and will create more to announce the entire new crew releasing April 18th.
🧡 Spent almost $700 between marketing and inventory. Made $7.
🧡 Drew a full body for Spyder (see home page) which I was not too thrilled to do and will leave the illustrating to my daughter from here out.
G4A report for lead generation comparison for February and March 2025 (Two month time period overlap, but numbers are for March. Not much change.)
A few takeaways from March:
🧡 The recurring message that I keeps echoing from different sources has become, “slow and steady wins the race”. I’m shifting my mindset to stay the course and have patience. Rome wasn’t conquered in a day…. and other appropriate idioms. The heart behind this business is to learn and teach my kids business ownership, and develop a community where dragon loving creative people of all ages can enjoy community.
Yes, we need it to make money, but focusing on profit above all else will tarnish the main objective. While I’m working diligently to progress Chatty Dragons, I’m learning everything from the ground up and 3 months is still an infancy.
🧡 G4A is reporting traffic from Reddit which I have only posted twice on, so I do wonder if that is bot traffic. I have no way of knowing at this point.
🧡 Marketing is slow to progress, but I feel like tightening my website for best practice SEO optimization is so important in these early days. SEO is free and I want to exhaust that potential before exploring paid advertising.
In April, I plan focus on more content creation - specifically for the new dragons. We’ll be taking a pause from Spyder’s story and shift our focus to Lena the dragon in the blog.
Promising to keep it real and transparent, Amanda
